Oral surgery- wisdom tooth removal

Why is the wisdom tooth the most superfluous? Do we really need it?

Of all our thirty-two teeth, it is our four wisdom teeth that cause us the most problems. Very often, they do not grow out and most people even think they might not even have wisdom teeth. When a wisdom tooth stays within the bone, it is usually because it is blocked. The obstacle can be the bone itself; it can be the tip, the side or the root of the tooth in front of it. If the wisdom tooth is completely oblique or rests against the tooth in front of it, it is called a deciduous wisdom tooth. This phenomenon often causes problems to the patient, and its removal may be a challenge even for an experienced dentist or oral surgeon. However, the removal of such wisdom teeth is highly recommended.

The detection of such problems may be greatly aided by panoramic X-rays used in everyday practice. If a person is to have braces, the orthodontist may also recommend the removal of wisdom teeth that is not causing the problem, both in the case of children and adults as a prevention. A wisdom tooth may start growing unexpectedly and may hit an obstacle, as it starts to press on the tooth or teeth in front of it. This can cause pain, congestion and even very serious dental problems. Should the wisdom tooth be removed, it has to be done by a practiced professional specialist.

In rare occasions, when a wisdom tooth has grown out properly, it is worth keeping, either to fill it in or, in the case of a tooth replacement, to fit a crown and use it as a bridge. However, it is important that the patient does not allow implants to be placed in front of a reclining wisdom tooth, because if the wisdom tooth starts to press on the implant, serious problems can result.

At our practice our doctors are practiced, trained and capable of such surgeries, we have all the required equipment and knowledge for an intervention of the kind.
